Types of Databases

The two types of databases that you will be using are: library catalog and online article indexes.

Library catalogs

(Eli Library Catalog)

organize all of the materials a library purchases. These include records for books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos, sound recordings, images, etc.

The catalog does not index individual articles.

Online Article Indexes are used to identify articles on a topic.

General Article Indexes

Some article indexes such as Academic Search Complete are general or multidisciplinary.
Subject Specific Article Indexes Many indexes specialize in a particular subject area, such as biology, education, or business.
